In Sarasota, Florida, scientists at the Mote Marine Laboratory are evaluating a new tool designed to minimize shark depredation, a common issue where sharks snatch fish or bait from fishing lines.

“Fishermen have been requesting the removal of specific shark species from their fishing areas, which undermines decades of conservation efforts,” stated senior biologist Jack Morris. “We believe an effective solution would be to develop a device that can deter sharks and prevent them from taking catches from both recreational and commercial fishermen.”
