Chicago Weather Alert: Potential Lake-Effect Snow Bursts Expected Along Lakefront This Friday | Radar Update

CHICAGO (WLS) — As the weekend approaches, parts of the Chicago area are bracing for significant snowfall due to lake-effect snow showers expected on Friday and Saturday.

Central and southern Cook County are currently under a Winter Storm Warning, which will remain in place until midnight.

Meanwhile, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Lake, DuPage, and northern Cook counties, effective until 6 p.m. on Friday.

Eastern Will County is also set to experience snowy conditions, with a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 6 p.m. on Friday and lasting until noon on Saturday.

For those in Lake and Porter counties in Northwest Indiana, a Winter Storm Warning will take effect from 3 p.m. on Friday through 6 p.m. on Saturday.

ABC7 Accuweather Meteorologist Tracy Butler says bursts of snow will move into the area from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Illinois, coming down at as much as in inch of snow per-hour.

Butler said the lake-effect snow could intensify very quickly with little warning.

Butler said the more intense lake-effect snow will move into Northwest Indiana starting from 3 p.m. through 6 p.m. Saturday. Intense bursts of snow could fall at a rate of two to three inches of snow per hour.

From Friday through Saturday, parts of Northwest Indiana near the lake could get 6-10 inches of snow.

Other parts of Northwest Indiana and in Illinois along the lakeshore could receive four-six inches of snow.

Parts of Cook County, eastern Will and Kankakee counties could receive two to four inches of snow and western suburbs could get one to two inches of snow.
