COLUMBIA, S.C. () — The University of South Carolina’s marching band has clinched the top spot in the 3rd annual Metallica Marching Band Competition — College Edition.

Metallica’s Robert Trujillo shared the exciting news via an Instagram story on January 30.

This victory grants the USC Gamecock band a chance to record a Metallica track along with the “Campus Clash” opening theme for an upcoming EA Sports College Football video game edition.

As outlined on the University of South Carolina’s official website, the band will also be awarded $50,000.

This spring, EA Sports will visit the USC campus in Columbia, S.C. to capture the band’s performances, which will subsequently be made available on Spotify.

The band’s contest submission was its halftime performance during the Oct. 18, 2025, home football game against Oklahoma. They performed “Master of Puppets” and “Lux Aeterna.” They also performed “Enter Sandman.”
