Former NFL star Vernon Davis has finally spoken out following allegations of assault against a woman.
“I am aware of the reports and deeply saddened by them. I am eager to clear my name,” Davis expressed in a statement he shared on Instagram on Saturday, January 31. “Right now, my focus remains on my life, my work, and the incredible people and partners who continue to stand by my side. Your positivity is invaluable to me.”
He added a personal touch to the post with the caption, “With love, Verny Vern.”
To maintain control over the narrative, the 41-year-old former athlete also posted the statement on his Instagram story, disabling comments on both posts.
TMZ Sports reported on Thursday, January 29, that a warrant for Davis’s arrest was issued on January 8 for assault and battery. According to the report, the former NFL star has a court date slated for February.
The TMZ report included details from a criminal complaint obtained by the outlet.
The complaint came from a May 31 incident, when the woman claims a disagreement broke out between her and Davis in his room over her pregnancy.
In the complaint, the woman claimed Davis “was hitting me w/ magazines + books from under his TV,” further alleging that the former tight end offered her $10,000.
She also claimed that Davis stopped attacking her when she pulled her phone out to record the alleged incident.
The woman also accused Davis of slapping her in the face after a separate incident. She claimed another argument broke out between her and Davis after she accused him of lying to her. She reportedly claimed he slapped her after she sat next to him on the couch, adding that he allegedly told her “not to question him.”

She claimed that she recorded a conversation between her and Davis later that night where he said, “If I really slapped you, your face would be blue/black.”
The woman also claimed that there was another altercation that left her with visible bruising.
Davis won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos in 2015, but played most of his career with the San Francisco 49ers. After he was drafted sixth overall in the 2006 NFL Draft, he spent 14 years in the NFL (with the 49ers, Broncos and Washington Commanders) and recorded 583 career receptions for 7,562 yards.
Back in 2016 — just after Davis won the Super Bowl with the Broncos — his then-fiancee, Janel Home, accused him of cheating on her with a 20-year-old woman in an Instagram post that was deleted soon after.
“When you give a man your all, 15yrs, 3kids, and you sacrifice your life and then he cheats on you with a 20yr old child and lies on you @vernondavis85,” she wrote, with a split image of Davis and the woman in question.
Davis and Home never married, but were a couple for nearly 15 years and share three kids together, which she referenced in her post.
In 2024, Davis tragically lost his brother, Vonate Davis, who was also an NFL star, at just 35 years old.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better little brother,” Vernon said to the Daily Mail at the time of his brother’s death.
