Steve Martin and Martin Short paid heartfelt tributes to their dear friend and colleague, Catherine O’Hara, just hours after her passing. The touching moment unfolded during their appearance at the Bass Concert Hall in Austin, Texas, leaving an indelible mark on the audience.
In a video making rounds on TikTok, the two stars of “Only Murders in the Building” were seen dressed in their usual dapper suits, standing solemnly on stage. Steve Martin and Martin Short, known for their incredible chemistry, took a moment to honor O’Hara’s memory in a poignant manner.
Martin Short, reflecting on their deep-rooted friendship, shared with the audience, “Catherine O’Hara and I met when she was just 18.” His voice filled with emotion, he continued, “Throughout all these years, she has been the greatest, most brilliant, kindest, sweetest angel that any of us have ever worked with.”
The duo, both seasoned veterans in the entertainment industry, then raised what appeared to be champagne glasses, symbolically clinking them together in a toast. The audience responded with appreciative applause, joining in the celebration of O’Hara’s remarkable life and legacy.

The Emmy and Golden Globe winning actress died Friday at her home in Los Angeles after a “brief illness,” at the age of 71, her agency, CAA, said in a statement to Page Six.
The Los Angeles Fire Department told Page Six that they responded to an emergency call at O’Hara’s Brentwood, Los Angeles home just before 5:00 a.m. on Friday.
She was transported her to the hospital in “serious” condition. A cause of death hasn’t been revealed — though according to 911 dispatch audio, she was having “breathing difficulty.”
Her cause of death has yet to be revealed, and sources told the Daily Mail on Saturday that some friends of the actress were left in “complete shock” following her death after being “kept in the dark” about her mystery illness. She is survived by husband Bo Welch and their two sons.
Short and Marin joined a chorus of celebrity voices publicly mourning the death of the comedian on Friday.
Seth Rogen, who starred on “The Studio” with O’Hara, called her death “a huge loss not just for ‘The Studio,’ but for the world in general,” adding, “She’s a legend.”
Likewise, Macaulay Culkin and other cast members from “Home Alone” shared tributes to the “Beetlejuice” star on Friday, as did “Beetlejuice” director Tim Burton and her “Beetlejuice” co-star Alec Baldwin, who called her “one of the greatest.”
O’Hara’s “Schitt’s Creek” cast mates also shared tributes to the beloved actress, with longtime friend Eugene Levy saying in an emotional statement that he “cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship.”
