Leo Woodall may exude confidence in his roles, but in real life, he initially showed a more reserved side, as Meghann Fahy recently disclosed.

Fahy recounted how her budding relationship with Woodall, sparked during the filming of the second season of The White Lotus in 2022, almost didn’t take off due to a misstep. On the January 29 episode of Penn Badgley’s Podcrushed podcast, she recounted how she handed Woodall her phone number while they were filming in Italy, only to be met with silence.

“I arrived before him,” Fahy recalled, mentioning that Woodall’s character doesn’t appear until the third episode. “Once he joined us, I saw him at our lunch spot and decided to give him my number.”

Despite how it might appear, Fahy emphasized that her intentions were purely friendly. The former The Bold Type star clarified that the gesture was a genuine attempt to connect, wanting him to feel welcomed rather than alone on set.

“I told him, ‘You’re new here,’” she elaborated. “I totally understand what it’s like to join a group late. It feels like everyone else has already bonded at camp, and you’re the odd one out. It’s a vulnerable position to be in.”

But after handing over her number, Fahy said Woodall didn’t respond at all. “He never did anything with it,” she added.

The awkward moment wasn’t addressed until “months later,” after the two eventually became a couple. Fahy recalled finally clearing the air with Woodall, who had apparently misunderstood the entire situation.

“He was like, ‘I didn’t know that you were interested in me,’ and I was like, ‘I gave you my number. How did you not know that?’” she said. “He was like, ‘I didn’t think you meant that. I didn’t think you actually were giving me your number because you wanted to be friends with me.’ I was like, ‘Why else?’”

Thankfully, the confusion didn’t derail their connection for long. The pair confirmed their relationship in November 2023 and have since been aligned on keeping things low-key. Last year, Woodall told Elle UK that maintaining their relationship as a “safe space” by “keeping it as private as we can” is “the only way.”

Fahy echoed that sentiment on Podcrushed, emphasizing that friendship has always been at the core of their relationship.

“The truth is that it was a very easy connection,” she said, “and we very quickly became really, really good buddies.”
