The press turned Rishi into a tabloid monster and his white in-laws have formally adopted his young son and renamed him “Hugo.”
So did Rishi intend to die by suicide or was his desperate leap an honest attempt at escaping the police? Industry star Sagar Radia took us inside Rishi’s tortured mind at the end of Industry Season 4 Episode 4…
Industry Season 4 Episode 4 Ending Explained: Is Charlie Heaton’s Jim Dycker Dead? Did Rishi Want to Die By Suicide?
First thing’s first: Jim Dycker did die of an overdose and it was probably a hit. Sagar Radia confirmed this to DECIDER.
“He comes out of the room and the guy’s dead,” Radia said. “He just thinks, ‘Well, my luck’s just gone from worst of the worst to the worst of the worst of the worst.’”
According to Radia, “Rishi is in survival mode this year” because he “has no real identity.”
When we first met Rishi, he was defined by his brash, often offensive, wit and total aggression on the sales floor. As we got to know him, we discovered more about his gambling addiction and his personal life as a husband and father.
“His identity was defined on his work and that doesn’t exist anymore,” Radia said. “At the end of Season 3, he was working on trying to be a better husband. That doesn’t exist anymore. So now what does what does the new Rishi look like? Okay, well, maybe it could have been being a father. Well, he signed that away so that part of his identity is gone as well.”
Radia explains that Rishi has turned to self-medication and going on benders like the one he goes on with Dycker, because, “You think, ‘Okay, well, that was something.’” Now Rishi is stuck back in hell.
“He kicks into that survival mode, as we all do as humans and you do what’s necessary when you’re backed into a corner and you try and fight your way out,” Radia said. “For him, it was off of that balcony.”
Radia believes that Rishi is so desperate in this moment that these flitting between wanting to escape and wanting to end it all.
“I think in one moment it is probably, ‘Do I just call it a day now? It’s not worth being here,’” he said. “Then I think your survival instinct kicks in and you think, ‘No, no, I just need to get away. I just need to get away. And then it’ll be all okay.’”
“He’s a runner. Rishi’s always been a runner. From Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, Season 4, he’s always been a runner,” Radia said. “Unfortunately, I think it catches up to him this time.”
