Kayla Nicole recently shared the stage with Toni Braxton, a few months after igniting a conversation with a Halloween costume that many interpreted as a jab at Taylor Swift.
Kayla Nicole is no stranger to controversy, especially when it comes to women who follow in her romantic footsteps. Since her association with Travis Kelce, she’s been rumored to throw shade at Taylor Swift on more than one occasion. However, Nicole truly made headlines during Halloween. Her costume, which she insists wasn’t aimed at Swift, nonetheless became a turning point in her public persona. This bold move eventually led to an unexpected collaboration with Toni Braxton. Interestingly, Braxton had previously remarked on the costume, months before inviting Nicole to share the limelight at one of her concerts.
Kayla Nicole dressed as Toni Braxton for Halloween
Nicole has remained in the public eye ever since her former partner, Travis Kelce, began a high-profile romance with Taylor Swift. The engagement between Kelce and Swift has only intensified the scrutiny, particularly due to Nicole’s subtle digs at their relationship. The buzz surrounding her reached its peak in October when she posted her Halloween attire on Instagram. Channeling Toni Braxton, Nicole donned a daring dress and grooved to the R&B star’s hit “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” sparking widespread chatter.
Fans of Taylor Swift were quick to note that the lyrics in the background felt purposefully pointed at Swift. In the video, Braxton is heard singing “…Do you know I dumped your husband, girlfriend? …He wasn’t man enough for me.” The interpreation fo the costume came after fans suspected Swift was shading Kayla Nicole with the lyrics to her hit song, “Opalite.”
After Kayla Nicole caught some criticism for the costume and its interpreted intentions, Toni Braxton spoke out about the situation. Entertainment Weekly caught up with Braxton after the alleged diss and asked her to weigh in on Nicole’s costume.
Braxton said she hoped that Kayla Nicole was paying homage to her and was simply enjoying Halloween. Braxton did seem a bit skeptical, though. She didn’t offer any commentary on the alleged feud between Nicole, her ex-boyfriend, and his new love. Any skepticism she may have had clearly disappeared, though. Braxton and Nicole seem to be buddies these days.
Clearly, the two ladies are now pals
While Toni Braxton didn’t initially know the meaning behind the costume, she was clearly happy to see someone dressed as her. After her comments, she and Nicole clearly developed some sort of connection. The podcaster appeared on stage with Braxton during a recent concert.
During Braxton’s set at The Kia Forum on January 31, Kayla Nicole appeared on stage, in costume, performing a dance similar to the one that had everyone talking. According to Page Six, Braxton drew attention to the stunt, asking Kayla if he was “man enough” for her.
