Man Arrested for Allegedly Simulating Gunfire Near Bondi Footbridge, Raising Public Safety Concerns

A man has been arrested after allegedly mimicking firing on people near the pedestrian bridge the Bondi Beach terror attack was launched from.

Reports of suspicious behavior involving two men on the Campbell Parade bridge around 7 p.m. on Saturday prompted a police probe.

Eyewitnesses described one man pretending to shoot at individuals near the bridge.

Authorities noted that when confronted, he allegedly hurled verbal abuse at passersby, leaving them feeling threatened and uneasy.

Police managed to speak with a 24-year-old man, but the other individual had already departed the area.

By 4:40 p.m. today, officers apprehended a 22-year-old man in Coogee, who was subsequently taken to the Maroubra police station for further investigation.

Fifteen innocent people were killed and dozens more were injured when two gunmen opened fire on attendees at the Chanukah by the Sea celebration from the footbridge on December 14.

Naveed Akram was charged with 59 offences and his father, Sajid, was killed by police.
