The vibrant city of New York is reeling from the tragic discovery of a woman’s body, found in the early hours of a Sunday morning. The victim, 39-year-old Michelle Montgomery, was last seen alive enjoying a night out, only to be found dismembered and concealed in garbage bags within a Brooklyn public housing building’s trash compactor room.

Montgomery’s shocking death has left her loved ones in search of answers. A mother of four, her remains were discovered by an employee of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) at the Borinquen Houses in Williamsburg. The grim find happened just hours after Montgomery was last seen alive, and she was later identified by the New York Police Department.

In an unsettling twist, Montgomery’s last public appearance was captured in a Facebook video she posted at 11:19 p.m. on Saturday. The video showed her dancing at Mama Taco restaurant in Williamsburg. Friends, speaking to local news outlet WPIX, expressed their unease, noting that they did not recognize the individuals accompanying her in the video.

Tragedy unfolded when, less than 12 hours after that video was posted, a NYCHA worker attempting to remove an unusually heavy garbage bag discovered Montgomery’s dismembered body. The discovery prompted a swift response from the NYPD, who arrived on the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m.

As of now, the investigation remains active with no arrests made, leaving a community on edge and a family devastated. The NYPD’s brief statement provided to Law&Crime confirmed the ongoing nature of the case, as they work tirelessly to piece together the events leading to Montgomery’s untimely death.

WPIX spoke to a close friend of Montgomery who viewed her final Facebook video. She told WPIX that she did not recognize the two people she saw in the video, saying, “We have no idea who that is,” and adding, “Usually when she goes out, she tags who she’s with.”

Montgomery’s husband, Anthony Echevarria, spoke to local news outlets in a desperate attempt to get more information and to get someone to come forward. He told News 12 Brooklyn that while he did not know exactly who Montgomery had gone out with on Saturday, he “trust[ed] her judgment. I trust how she moves.” But as far as how she came to be found in another neighborhood, he said, “I can’t understand why she was there.”

Echevarria told WPIX, “Find out what really happened. That could be the biggest help to bring the dude that chopped up my wife to justice.”

News 12 Brooklyn said the medical examiner performed an exam on Monday but did not release an official cause of death for Montgomery.
