Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been unaccounted for over the past three days. However, the local Sheriff’s Department remains optimistic about her safe return.

“We have nothing else to go on but the belief that she is here,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in an interview with NBC’s Liz Kreutz that aired on Today on Wednesday, February 4. “She’s present. She’s alive, and we want to save her.”

Amid speculation regarding the involvement of Guthrie’s son-in-law, Tomasso Cioni, in her disappearance, the authorities have dismissed these rumors. Sheriff Nanos made a point to clarify the situation and dispel any unfounded accusations.

“At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie,” he shared in a statement on Wednesday. “While we appreciate the public’s concern, the sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation.”

Sheriff Nanos emphasized that both his team and the FBI are diligently pursuing all possible leads. “The information we’re receiving is crucial,” he stated in an interview with Kreutz on Wednesday. “We value these leads and are actively collaborating with the FBI and other agencies.”

Nancy Guthrie vanished from her residence near Tucson, Arizona, shortly after being dropped off by her daughter, Annie Guthrie, following a family dinner. She was reported missing the next day at noon when her absence was noted by friends at church.

Guthrie disappeared from her home outside of Tucson, Arizona, after her daughter, Annie Guthrie, dropped her off following a family dinner. She was reported missing around noon the following day, after friends noticed she was absent from church.

Nanos previously explained that they have reason to believe she was “harmed” when she was taken from her home “against her will.”
