Student Immigration Rally Erupts in Downtown LA; Police Enforce Dispersal Order

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles police issued a dispersal order following a large-scale student protest against federal immigration enforcement that escalated into violence in downtown Los Angeles.

Around 3:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division released a community advisory. It reported that officers were attempting to detain an individual for throwing objects when the crowd began to converge and obstruct the police.

Authorities have warned that anyone who does not comply with the dispersal order may face arrest.

Protesters face off against police in Los Angeles

Student protesters opposing ICE clashed with police in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, as reported by KTTV.

The situation turned violent when hundreds of middle and high school students gathered in downtown Los Angeles to voice their opposition.

Footage obtained by affiliate FOX 11 Los Angeles showed students marching down the street, waving large Mexican flags and signs while toting backpacks.

The students blocked at least four lanes of traffic as they made their way through the city.

Crowds appeared to dwindle as tensions rose near ICE’s Los Angeles Field Office at the intersection of East Temple and North Alameda streets.

At least four suspects were detained for vandalizing property in the area and will be charged with felony vandalism, according to the LAPD.

It is unclear if the suspects were students, or participants in the march.
