Authorities from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office have reported a tragic accident involving a motorcyclist in his late 40s, who collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer car hauler on New Kings Road.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A fatal incident occurred at the intersection of Soutel Drive and New Kings Road on Thursday morning, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office provided details of the crash.
Sgt. Robert Hungerford of the JSO explained that the motorcyclist was heading south on New Kings Road while a tractor-trailer car hauler was traveling northbound. The collision took place when the truck attempted a left turn onto Soutel Drive.
According to Hungerford, the motorcyclist struck the rear of the car hauler during this maneuver. Emergency personnel from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived promptly at the scene, but tragically, they pronounced the motorcyclist deceased upon their arrival.
Hungerford said members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the scene and pronounced the motorcyclist dead upon arrival.
According to Hungerford, the driver of the car hauler is cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the crash, and is unlikely to face any charges as Hungerford said a witness told police it appeared that the motorcyclist ran a red light just before the crash happened.
This crash marks as the 17th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2026, and the fifth involving a motorcyclist.
“Just be very careful, watch for motorcyclists,” Hungerford said. “Motorcyclists, please wear your helmets and high-visibility gear. It can help people see you when you’re on the roadway.”
