One lesson many in the UK took from 2020 was how Prince Harry’s approach to stepping back from royal duties with Meghan Markle was fraught with missteps. Fast forward six years, and a similar scenario is unfolding with Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz, though this time the drama centers around the entertainment industry’s elite rather than royalty. While it’s understandable for individuals to sever ties when necessary, public opinion of Harry shifted notably once he began revealing intimate details.
Drawing boundaries and moving on is one thing, but Brooklyn’s removal of his tattoo tribute to his father, followed by an Instagram post, seemed intentionally inflammatory. Public sentiment on the matter was ambiguous until Brooklyn escalated the situation with a bold social media declaration, reminiscent of Harry and Meghan’s tell-all moment with Oprah Winfrey.
As with Harry and Meghan, it seems the revelations from Brooklyn are poised to continue. Brooklyn has erased the tattoo dedicated to his father and modified it with a “mama’s boy” inscription, partially obscuring the original ink.
Once again, we witness one faction trying to maintain dignity while another continues to provoke. Reports suggest Brooklyn is working on a new autobiography, paralleling Harry’s own literary endeavor. It’s becoming quite the spectacle. One wonders if Brooklyn failed to heed the lessons from Harry’s experience.
Harry has made visible attempts to mend fences with his family, though it hasn’t been straightforward. This current family rift involving Brooklyn seems rather conclusive, yet if he sought advice from Harry, the counsel might be to avoid such overt antagonism towards family—it’s unlikely to yield positive results.
I know that Brooklyn had probably had enough with all of the speculation and talk about a feud with his family, but in these situations, silence can speak volumes without needing to actually drag his parents through the mud. Every time he does something, he is putting himself further and further away from any kind of future reconciliation.
Harry has been trying to rebuild relationships ever since they first soured. He wanted relationships with some people still, but wanted to explain why he left the UK, and as a result, it blew up in his face. Brooklyn has done the exact same thing.
When he and Nicola start having children, things are going to be tested even further, as they grow up they are likely going to want to know their grandparents, their quite frankly, very famous grandparents. You can keep people at a distance without completely cutting them off, but right now, he’s just digging his own grave.
