From Reality TV Star to Political Contender!

Spencer Pratt has thrown his hat into the ring for the mayoral race in Los Angeles. According to an insider speaking to In Touch, the former reality TV personality is “confident he has a legitimate chance” of clinching the position.

“Spencer has always had a keen interest in politics, and he thrives on having a platform to express his views. So, transitioning into politics feels like a natural step for him,” the source shares about the 42-year-old The Hills star, who holds a political science degree from the University of Southern California.

The source further explains, “He believes in his potential for success and often draws parallels between his journey from reality TV to politics with Donald Trump’s rise. Spencer figures that if Trump could ascend to the presidency, there’s no reason he can’t aim for Washington himself.”

Despite some skepticism from Hollywood elites, the source notes that their doubts have not deterred Pratt from pursuing his political ambitions.

“He says it’s actually good for him because it just gets more people talking about him. He doesn’t care at all if the establishment likes him,” the source reveals. “In fact, he’s more than happy if he’s seen as an outlier because to him, that’s the type of person that succeeds in politics these days.”

Pratt has got the support of former co-star Brody Jenner, who stood up for the mayoral hopeful in a recent Instagram Story.

“He’s genuinely one of the smartest people I’ve ever met,” the 42-year-old declared. “He didn’t ‘end up’ in reality TV, he chose it because he loved it and understood the opportunity.”

But that’s exactly what’s got some folks worried.

“A lot of people are convinced this is just about the attention,” says In Touch’s source. However, Pratt and his wife, Heidi Montag, “both insist it is very serious and coming from a genuine place,” adds the source.

After losing their home in the 2024 Los Angeles wildfires, the former reality TV star fought for accountability and reform, even making the trek to Capitol Hill in September to help bring awareness to a congressional investigation into the disaster response.

“Pushing for more relief and faster rebuilding is the platform he’s running on so in that sense, this is very personal to them,” says the source.
