On Friday, NASA unveiled a breathtaking new perspective from the International Space Station.

The release included a mesmerizing timelapse video capturing the spectacle of auroras as observed from space.

Within the footage, vibrant green “ribbons” of light gracefully encircle the Earth, accompanied by a delicate orange hue outlining the planet’s atmosphere.

NASA explained that auroras occur when charged particles from the sun collide with atmospheric gases on Earth, all under the influence of the planet’s magnetic field.

The captivating colors of the auroras are due to oxygen emitting green and red light, while nitrogen adds shades of blue and purple.

Oxygen contributes green and red light to the auroras, while nitrogen produces blues and purples.
