Gabourey Sidibe recently took a light-hearted jab at Kathy Hilton, recalling an incident from nearly four years ago when the reality TV star mistakenly identified her as musician Lizzo.
The mix-up occurred during an August 2022 episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” where Hilton participated in a celebrity photo guessing game titled “Will Kathy Know Them?”
Presented with a photo of Lizzo, the 66-year-old “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star hesitated and then said, “I feel like I know her. Is that Precious?”—mistakenly referring to Sidibe’s well-known role in the movie “Precious.”
The blunder was met with awkward laughter from the audience and host Andy Cohen. Hilton attempted to clarify by saying, “That’s what I call her. Her nickname’s Precious to me.”
Crystal Kung Minkoff, a former “RHOBH” cast member who was also featured in the episode, tried to defuse the situation by adding, “She is precious, though. Lizzo is precious.”
Sidibe, 42, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the 2009 drama film, finally weighed in on the moment during Wednesday’s episode of the One54 podcast.
“That was weird because I have been to that lady’s house and had a meeting with her,” she laughed, referring to the reality TV star. “I was like, ‘I know you — Kathy.’”
“I’ve never met Lizzo, but Lizzo and I do different things,” she explained. “I’ve been confused for many a Black fat, like many, many, many women. And it’s always weird and tinged with racism.”
She added, “I did think that was weird, Kathy Hilton. Because I have been to that woman’s house and had a meeting with her because she wanted to dress me. I was like, that’s so strange.”
Sidibe seemingly confessed to being put off by Hilton referring to her as her titular character. “You oughta know my real name, also, ’cause she said ‘Precious?’ I just…I don’t know.”
A rep for Hilton did not immediately return Page Six’s request for comment on Friday.
Hilton addressed the gaffe at the time via social media, writing in part that her “vision is awful” and that “the screen was so far away that I couldn’t even recognize Justin Timberlake or Melissa Etheridge.”
An insider divulged to E! News that the Bravolebrity felt “terrible” following the mistake and ensuing fan backlash.
“She gets a little nervous when she is on live TV,” the source told the outlet. “Kathy is a very sensitive person and would never intentionally hurt anyone’s feelings.”
They added that the Hilton matriarch “doesn’t know who anyone is.”
