In a tragic incident on Friday evening, a 69-year-old man from Palm Coast lost his life following a collision while he was riding an electric bike in Flagler County, Florida. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the fatal crash took place around 6:47 p.m. at the intersection of Palm Coast Parkway and Diandra Throughway.
According to the crash report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was heading south on his e-bike and was in the process of crossing the intersection. At the same time, a sedan and an SUV were traveling westbound on Palm Coast Parkway.
The situation took a turn for the worse when the e-bike rider did not yield the right-of-way to the oncoming sedan. This misjudgment led to the front of the e-bike colliding with the right rear of the sedan, as stated in the report.
The impact caused the man to be thrown from his e-bike. In a further unfortunate sequence of events, the SUV, which was following closely behind the sedan, struck the e-bike. Following the collisions, both the sedan and the SUV came to a stop on the right shoulder of the road.
The man to fall from the e-bike as the SUV behind the sedan then struck the e-bike, troopers said, adding both vehicles stopped on the right shoulder.
The e-bike rider suffered fatal injuries, according to FHP. Troopers believe he was not wearing a helmet during the crash.
None of the two other vehicles’ occupants were injured in the crash, FHP said.
