A family visit has ended in tragedy after a grandmother from Nepal was killed by an out-of-control car when it smashed into a home in Perth‘s inner-east.

The heartbroken family of Himali Gurung is desperately seeking answers following her tragic death while she was asleep at her daughter’s residence.

Surveillance footage captures the moment a vehicle crashed into the family bedroom, where the 53-year-old was resting, igniting a shower of sparks.

Upon hearing a “loud smash” on Alexander Road in Rivervale just before midnight, neighbors quickly emerged to offer assistance.

Unfortunately, Gurung was trapped beneath the debris and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Authorities report that a Ford Falcon veered onto the opposite side of the road, ascended a driveway, and crashed through a fence before colliding directly with the house.

The alleged driver, a 36-year-old man, and his 43-year-old passenger both escaped without injury.

SES crews were called in to stabilise the home as major crash investigators attempted to map out the moments before impact.

This morning, devastated family gathered outside the damaged home, trying to come to terms with their sudden loss.

The 53-year-old woman and her husband had only been in Australia for a few months, having flown over from Nepal to visit family.

Gurung was remembered as a warm and charming woman, whose smile never faded.

“She was the heart and soul of our family, our greatest source of strength, comfort and laughter,” one family member wrote on an online fundraiser.

“This tragedy has left our family facing overwhelming emotional, psychological and financial hardship.”

A 36-year-old Kewdale man was arrested at the scene and later charged with manslaughter. He’ll face court on Sunday.
