Drew Scott, the beloved HGTV personality, is grappling with a profound family tragedy. The “Property Brothers” star recently revealed on Instagram that he is mourning the loss of his mother-in-law, Linda Phan’s mother, an event that has left him feeling particularly vulnerable and helpless.
At 47, Scott shared the heartbreaking news with his followers, expressing his deep sorrow and paying homage to the woman who had such a significant impact on their lives. “My heart is broken,” he wrote, capturing the depth of his grief. “We have lost one of the most beautiful, kind, and selfless people this planet has ever seen.”
In a moving tribute, Scott described Linda’s mother as truly one of a kind, lamenting her untimely departure. “Linda’s mom is truly one of a kind and was taken from us far too soon,” he shared, reflecting on the void left by her passing.
Scott’s heartfelt message continued with gratitude for the joy she brought into their lives. “Thank you, Habu, for bringing so much light to our lives,” he expressed, recalling the infectious nature of her laughter and the cherished memories of late-night games they shared. Such moments, he noted, will forever remain etched in his memory.
‘Thank you Habu for bringing so much light to our lives. Your laugh was infectious and I will always remember our late nights playing your favorite game.’
Scott continued: ‘I feel helpless in trying to comfort Linda and her family but know memories of all the beautiful times with Habu will live on with us forever.
‘You were always there for us and all 10 grandkids. The hardest thing for me is to know we won’t have you here to see Parker and Piper grow into strong and compassionate adults like you. I love you. I miss you.’

The post was quickly flooded with support from a whole host of other famous faces including twin brother Jonathan Scott who wrote: ‘What a loving soul through and through. May we always remember and feel the love she shared.’
Actress Viola Davis added: ‘So very sorry.’
British singer Leona Lewis wrote: ‘Our hearts are with you, so sorry to hear this, praying for Linda and the family.’
And Michael Buble added: ‘So sorry guys. God bless you all. Buble’s send so much love.’Â
Real estate broker Scott met podcast producer Phan in 2010 before getting engaged in 2016.
Their wedding was documented in the 2018 TLC special Property Brothers: Linda and Drew Say I Do.
Scott and Phan welcomed their first child – son Parker – in May 2022. Their family grew again with the birth of daughter Piper in May 2024 with both kids welcomed via IVF after battling fertility issues.
Earlier this week, HGTV announced that the Scott brothers’ new show, titled Property Brothers: Under Pressure, will premiere on Sunday, March 15.

Earlier this week, HGTV announced that the Scott brothers’ new show, titled Property Brothers: Under Pressure, will premiere on Sunday, March 15
‘The Scott brothers will guide clients through the ups and downs of the home buying process — from fiercely competitive markets and sticker shock to personal wish lists and tough compromises — when their emotional and financial stakes are at an all-time high.Â
‘Once the deals are done, Drew and Jonathan will then incorporate stunning, smart and functional design solutions into budget-conscious renovations to create clients’ dream homes,’ the synopsis reads.
The brothers were largely unscathed by HGTV’s recent culling of shows on the network which saw a slew of popular titles axed.
Shortly after the initial raft of HGTV cancellations in August last year, network sources spoke exclusively to the Daily Mail about the thinking behind the move.
‘We had to stop the bleeding,’ said the senior source, who claimed that revenues were underperforming and the network needed to act.
‘We were hemorrhaging money. So in order to stop the bleeding, we had to have a bloodbath. It was calculated cuts to make things make sense, financially.’
