AUGUSTA, Ga. () – On Friday, the Richmond County School Board issued an open letter addressing community concerns regarding a proposed Master Plan that could significantly affect T.W. Josey High School.

The plan suggests transforming Josey High School and the nearby middle school into a dedicated career and college academy.

In their letter dated February 6, officials affirmed their commitment to maintaining the current Josey attendance zone operational until the new facility is complete. Should the board proceed with the plan, a committee, including alumni, students, and local community members, will be formed to deliberate on the name of the new institution.

Before the final decision is made, there are two additional public hearings scheduled. The first will take place on February 9 at 6 p.m. at Barton Chapel Elementary, and the second on February 12 at noon in the Richmond County School System central auditorium. Originally, these meetings had been postponed.

The decisive vote on this proposal is set for February 23, 2026.

The letter in its entirety can be read below.
