Gabrielle Union graced the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of “GOAT” on February 6, 2026, accompanied by her husband, Dwyane Wade, and their daughter, Kaavia James.

This family outing was part of Union’s promotional tour for the highly anticipated animated film. The tour included a notable appearance on “Today” with Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones, where a heartwarming moment unfolded.

Kaavia made a surprise video entry on the show, charming viewers with her candid curiosity. “Hi, my name is Kaavia and I want to ask you some questions. Why did you want to be in ‘GOAT,’ mommy? It is about animals but why?” she inquired.

Union warmly addressed her daughter’s question, explaining, “Oh my gosh! Well okay, she knows I love animals. I forced her [Kaavia] to go to this farm that saves farm animals. It was like a farm animal rescue and she was like, ‘I hate it here,’” the 53-year-old shared, humorously mimicking her daughter’s expression.

Gabrielle responded to the question, “Oh my gosh! Well okay, she knows I love animals. I forced her [Kaavia] to go to this farm that saves farm animals. It was like a farm animal rescue and she was like, ‘I hate it here,’” the 53-year-old continued as she imitated her daughter’s expression.

She continued, “I am an animal lover, but it’s also, you know, a take on basketball. But the game is called Roarball. Andit’s about underdogs and learning that you should never let anyone put a ceiling on your dreams. And anyone is capable of doing amazing tings with their lives if given a chance and a bit of encouragement.”

In the film, the Bring it On alum voices the character of Jett Fillmore. She gave additional details about her character in another interview saying that, “…it was very much of a challenge” because Jett is a cat and Gabrielle is a dog person. The actress also went on to say that Jett is a bigger than life character and she had to study her husband, NBA legend Dwyane Wade, and Teresa Witherspoon, to channel “how to play bigger than they were.”

GOAT comes from the artists behind KPop Demon Hunters and Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse. Steph Curry also serves as a producer, and the film features voice performances from Caleb McLaughlin, Aaron Pierre, David Harbour, Jelly Roll, Nicola Coughlan, Sherry Cola, Bobby Lee, and more.

According to the official synopsis, the film follows a small goat with big dreams who gets a once in a lifetime opportunity to join the pros and play roarball, a high intensity, co ed, full contact sport dominated by the fastest and fiercest animals in the world.

GOAT hits theaters nationwide on Friday, February 13.
