DIXMOOR, Ill. — On Saturday, a second water main break emerged in Dixmoor, shortly after repairs were completed on a previous break that had disrupted water service for numerous residents in the south suburb, according to village officials.
Over the last month, Dixmoor has been plagued by a series of water main issues.

“The latest break is situated at 143rd and Marshfield in Dixmoor, affecting around 50 homes,” Village President Fitzgerald Roberts announced in a statement on Saturday evening. “These households are currently without water due to the break. Repair crews are on-site, but we do not have an estimated time for when the repairs will be finished.”
Later on Saturday, a village spokesperson provided an update, confirming the initial break had been fixed but revealing that a second break had been discovered nearby. This new issue is anticipated to remain unresolved until Sunday.
Last month, one of the water main breaks led to the temporary closure of two schools as workers addressed the problem. Just last week, another break affected more than half of Dixmoor’s population.
The village says the old infrastructure is partially to blame and leaders continue to push for more funding to make much needed improvements.
“We still need more funding to take care of this infrastructure out here,” Roberts said last week. “I say over and over again this infrastructure is over 100 years old plus when you have hot to cold, or if it’s too hot you’re going to have pipes that break.”
