Reports have surfaced that individuals claiming to have abducted Nancy, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, are demanding a hefty ransom of $6 million in Bitcoin, according to a local television station.
JJ McKinney from Tucson’s ABC affiliate KGUN9 shared, “We’ve received multiple ransom notes, including one that was sent directly to our station.”
The kidnappers have stipulated that the Guthrie family must pay the $6 million sum before the upcoming Monday, as detailed in the threatening correspondence.
The note warns that Nancy Guthrie’s safety is at risk if the payment deadline, set for 5 p.m. local time on Monday, is not met, as reported by the news outlet.
In a heartfelt plea, Savannah Guthrie, along with her siblings Annie and Camron, reached out to the unidentified captors on Saturday night, earnestly requesting their mother’s safe return.
“We received your message and we understand,” the “Today” anchor said on Instagram, alongside her brother and sister.
“We beg you now to return our mother to us, so that we can celebrate with her,” she added, later saying that her mother’s return is “very valuable to us” and “we will pay.”
“This is the only way we will have peace,” Savannah said.
Sunday marks the eighth day in the intensive search for Nancy, who was last seen on Jan. 31, after having dinner and a game night at daughter Annie’s home.
Nancy was reported missing at around noon on Feb. 1.
On Saturday, cops made yet another sweep at Annie’s home and Nancy’s home, both in Tucason.
Authorities have not publicly detailed the purpose of the activity or what, if anything, was recovered.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has said the investigation remains active, with no suspects or persons of interest identified as of Saturday night.
