Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have taken 21-year-old Domitree Gerald Bacon into custody, charging him with illegal firearm possession by a convicted felon along with holding less than 20 grams of marijuana.

On February 6, around 2:52 p.m., an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a gray Pontiac veer into opposing traffic lanes and neglect to halt at the stop bar upon entering U.S. Hwy 441 at NW 55th Avenue.

When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop along Northwest 53rd Avenue, the vehicle reportedly bypassed several safe pull-over spots. Consequently, deputies employed a box-in maneuver to halt the vehicle, with Bacon identified as the passenger.

A consensual search of Bacon allegedly revealed a bag containing 2.7 grams of marijuana in his pocket, and it was noted that he does not possess a medical marijuana card.

The deputy reported a strong odor of burnt marijuana as he approached the vehicle, and there was also marijuana “shake” in the driver’s door, driver’s seat, and on the driver’s floor. A probable cause search of the vehicle reportedly produced a pistol with an extended magazine under Bacon’s seat and another bag with 15 grams of marijuana in the center console. The arrest report does not provide any information about the driver, despite mentioning the marijuana found in the center console.

Bacon is a convicted felon who is on probation and is not permitted to possess firearms.

Bacon has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and violating probation. He was arrested for vehicle burglary in Alachua as a juvenile, but the disposition of that case is not a public record. He was arrested in August 2024 for fighting at a high school football game in Hawthorne and refusing to stop when instructed by deputies, and he entered into a pre-trial diversion agreement on those charges but failed to successfully complete the terms of the agreement and eventually entered a plea of nolo contendere to the charges; adjudication of guilt was withheld, and he was fined $343 in October 2025, but he has only paid $30 of the fees, and his scheduled payments are past due. He is on probation out of Orange County until June 2027 for fleeing law enforcement. Judge Adam Lee set bail at $85,000 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
