Dermot O’Leary has made an unexpected decision to collaborate professionally with his wife, Dee Koppang O’Leary. The couple first crossed paths in 2002 while working at the same television production company and tied the knot a decade later, in 2012. Since launching their own production company in 2013, their joint ventures have been limited to this business endeavor. Dermot once mentioned to the Belfast Telegraph, “We’ve had a few joint projects, but I can’t imagine a scenario where she would be directing me. It’s a husband-and-wife dynamic—I mean, really! She doesn’t quite criticize me, but she’s straightforward.”
He further elaborated, saying, “If she thinks I didn’t perform well on a show, her silence says it all, but she doesn’t offer advice!” He humorously added, “And I certainly wouldn’t tell her how to set up a shot.” Yet, Dermot has recently bent this rule.
He makes a cameo in the final season of The Split, taking on the role of a breakfast television host—something that doesn’t stray far from his real-life experiences.
His appearance is brief, suggesting that Dee likely didn’t need to guide him extensively. On International Women’s Day this year, Dermot, 48, honored his Norwegian-born wife alongside his mother and sister.
He shared a photo of the three influential women in his life, affectionately captioning it as his “holy trinity.”
Though she may not be as widely known as her husband, the director has built an impressive career of her own, working on acclaimed series such as The Crown and Bridgerton, before going on to The Split.
Dermot, meanwhile, is one of the UK’s most successful presenters, having fronted a host of primetime programmes including The X Factor and This Morning.
Their son, Kasper, was a welcome addition to the family, with Dermot telling fans he was embracing the “sleepless love” of first-time fatherhood.
