Chicago proudly took the spotlight on Sunday during the Super Bowl LX halftime show, as the city’s vibrant arts scene was represented on a global stage.

Adding a touch of Chicago’s musical excellence, Giancarlo Guerrero, the esteemed director of the Grant Park Music Festival, joined the performance alongside international sensation Bad Bunny. Guerrero’s presence was felt as he conducted a talented ensemble of string players during the captivating rendition of “Monaco.”

Reflecting on this monumental experience, Guerrero shared, “Bad Bunny is an artist of remarkable versatility, whose music spans a vast array of Hispanic genres. His work resonates deeply, embodying a sense of home through familiar melodies. It was truly incredible to be part of this extraordinary event.” He further expressed, “Working with such a brilliant team of artists was beyond inspiring. Witnessing the creative process culminate in this spectacular show was exhilarating!”

The performance not only highlighted Guerrero’s expertise but also celebrated the rich cultural tapestry of Hispanic music. It was a moment of pride not just for Chicago, but for all those who appreciate the vibrant diversity of musical expression.

Guerrero will be back in Chicago on June 10 to conduct the Grant Park Orchestra at the opening of the festival’s 10-week season in Millennium Park.

He was born in Nicaragua and immigrated during his childhood to Costa Rica, where he joined the local youth symphony. His career has led him to Texas, Nashville and Chicago.

Guerrero is a six-time Grammy Award-winning conductor, who also serves as the Music Director of Sarasota Orchestra, and the Music Director Laureate of the Nashville Symphony.

“Both my daughters and wife are huge fans of Bad Bunny,” Guerrero said. “If I wouldn’t have jumped at this opportunity, they would never have forgiven me!”
