SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – 49ers defensive lineman Keion White was shot early Monday morning in San Francisco, the team said in a statement. The San Francisco Police Department confirmed to Nexstar’s KRON that the shooting happened around 4:06 a.m.

White was shot in the ankle and undergwent surgery at a San Francisco hospital, the 49ers said. SFPD said his injuries are non-life-threatening.

“Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco. He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate,” the 49ers said in the statement.

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie put out a statement on social media about the shooting, calling it “unacceptable.”

“Any violent incident in our city is unacceptable, and I’m hoping Keion recovers quickly. I’ve spoken with SFPD and 49ers leadership—we are all grateful to our SFPD officers for their quick response,” Lurie wrote in an X post. “As always, I will continue working with San Francisco law enforcement to ensure our neighborhoods and our residents are safe.”

According to a preliminary SFPD investigation, the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation between two parties inside a Mission District establishment. The shots were fired by an unknown person, police said.

It is unclear whether the shooting happened inside or outside the bar.

As of Monday evening, no arrests in the shooting had been made.

White, 27, was traded from New England to the 49ers this past October. He began the season with the AFC Champion Patriots, who lost Super Bowl LX to the Seahawks.

This is the second time a 49ers player has been shot in San Francisco since 2024. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in Union Square before the 2024 regular season started.
