JESUP, Ga. — Starting Wednesday, students at Wayne County High School will experience a new procedure upon entering the premises.

This change comes with the introduction of a weapon detection system, as announced by school officials via social media on Tuesday.

Students will be required to enter through the front entrance and organize themselves into three lines.

While passing through this new system, they may be asked to remove certain items like three-ring binders or metal cups.

School authorities are advising students to avoid bringing items such as metal body spray or deodorant cans, metal lunchboxes or pencil cases, perfume or cologne with metal components, and metal bottles or items wrapped in aluminum foil.

They also said students should place small metal items like earbuds, eyeglass cases, calculators and chargers in a clear Ziplock style bag for faster entry. Students will hand their clear bag, binders and electronics to staff members while passing through the metal detectors.

It may take longer to enter the building than usual while students and staff adjust to the new procedure, a spokesperson said.

Officials also shared a training video of what the process will look like. You can watch it by clicking or tapping here.

“Our goal is to maintain a safe, welcoming, and efficient start to each school day while minimizing disruptions to instruction,” a Wayne County High spokesperson said. “Thank you for your continued support as we implement this important safety measure.”
