Gabrielle Union, well-known for her role in one of the most iconic teen films, finds that her cinematic fame doesn’t carry much weight at home.
At the Los Angeles premiere of the animated movie GOAT on February 6, Union revealed to EOnline that her daughter, Kaavia Wade, doesn’t share the same enthusiasm for her mother’s 2000 cheerleading film, Bring It On.
Although Kaavia, who is seven, has caught glimpses of the beloved film, she hasn’t watched it in its entirety. While she can identify some of the cheerleading routines, the movie doesn’t resonate with her as it does with its dedicated fanbase.
“She’ll mimic a bit of ‘Brr,’” Union mentioned, referencing one of the film’s well-known cheers. “But to her, it’s not the epitome of cool. In her eyes, mom isn’t the coolest.”
Union also noted that her daughter might not yet be ready for all the humor in the film. “I’m not sure she’s ready to fully appreciate the comedy in Bring It On.”
She added that her daughter may not be ready to watch the entire movie. “I don’t know if she’s ready for all of the humor in Bring It On.”
While Kaavia may not be sold on the cheerleading classic, she appears more interested in her mom’s latest project.
During a recent appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Kaavia made a surprise video appearance and asked about GOAT.
“Hi, my name is Kaavia and I want to ask you some questions,” she said. “Why did you want to be in GOAT, mommy? It is about animals, but why?”

Union laughed as she explained that the film combines two of her interests.
“She knows I love animals,” she said, recalling a visit to a farm animal rescue. “I forced her [Kaavia] to go to this farm that saves farm animals. It was like a farm animal rescue and she was like, ‘I hate it here,’” the 53-year-old said.
“I am an animal lover, but it’s also, you know, a take on basketball. But the game is called Roarball. And it’s about underdogs and learning that you should never let anyone put a ceiling on your dreams. And anyone is capable of doing amazing tings with their lives if given a chance and a bit of encouragement.”
Gabrielle Union shares her daughter with former NBA star Dwyane Wade. The couple also help raise Wade’s children from previous relationships — Zaire, 24, Zaya, 18, and Xavier, 12. Wade is also the legal guardian of his nephew, Dahveon Morris, 21.
