After a long wait, CBS has unveiled the first teaser for its new “Yellowstone” offshoot, “Marshals.” The much-anticipated trailer has sparked intrigue and left fans puzzled over a key question: the absence of Monica Dutton, portrayed by Kelsey Asbille. To dive deeper into the fan reactions and theories surrounding Monica’s potential vanishing, be sure to watch our video above.

“Marshals” shifts its focus to Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes), the family’s more law-abiding member, as he transitions into his role as a U.S. Marshal. His son Tate, depicted by Brecken Merrill, is set to appear; however, Monica’s presence is notably missing from the trailer, and Asbille’s name is absent from the cast list. The preview hints at a grim fate for Monica, possibly suggesting her demise due to illness, as indicated by scenes of a nurse covering a body amidst a room filled with medication. Further adding to the speculation, Kayce is shown visiting the Dutton family cemetery, lamenting the loss of most of his loved ones, which does not bode well for Monica’s fate.

Fans have been vocal about their disappointment regarding Monica’s potential exit. One viewer, @NCRick1, expressed their discontent by stating, “Monica killed off?? Count me out!” Similarly, @VRValicento shared their disbelief, questioning, “Monica’s dead? WTH?”

If Monica Dutton’s character meets an untimely end, it would be a sorrowful conclusion to a journey marked by strife and divided loyalties. Torn between her roots at the Broken Rock Reservation, where she grew up, and her marriage to Kayce, Monica has struggled to fully belong in either the tumultuous world of the Duttons or her own cultural heritage.

Throughout the series, Monica faces numerous physical and emotional trials. Her brother’s death in the opening episode and her sister-in-law’s subsequent suicide, which leaves their children orphaned, weigh heavily on her. As an educator, Monica also endures a traumatic accident while breaking up a student fight, resulting in a brain injury that temporarily confines her to a wheelchair.

Loyal watchers have taken note, and they haven’t been afraid to express their disappointment over her absence. “Monica killed off?? Count me out!” said @NCRick1 on X, while @VRValicento echoed those sentiments, remarking, “Monica’s dead? WTH?”

Monica’s death might be one more tragedy in a short, hard life

If Monica Dutton dies, it’ll put a tragic cap on a life already fraught with ill omens. Long divided between her people at the Broken Rock Reservation — where she was raised — and her love of Kayce, Monica could never quite find a foothold in either the Duttons’ crime-filled world or her own tribe.

During the course of the series, Monica is forced to deal with a heap of physical and emotional pain. Her brother dies in the series premiere, and her sister-in-law later takes her own life, orphaning their children. A teacher by trade, Monica is accidentally hurt while trying to stop two students from brawling. Her fall causes a brain injury and temporarily leaves her wheelchair-bound.

Later, she becomes pregnant, only to lose the child in a miscarriage brought on by a car accident. Monica subsequently has a smaller role on Season 5 of “Yellowstone,” but when she appears she puts pressure on Kayce to break away from the Duttons. The couple finally manage to find a way out in the wake of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) being killed; during the series finale of “Yellowstone,” Monica settles into a brand new life with Kayce and Tate on their very own ranch, far from the influence of the Dutton name. Want to hear more about what “Yellowstone” fans think of Monica’s possible departure from Kayce’s life ahead of “Marshals”? Then watch the video above.
