Preserving Heritage: Queen Quet’s 30th Anniversary ‘Save the Sea Islands Tour’ Celebrates Gullah/Geechee Culture

ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. — Queen Quet, the Chieftess and Head-of-State of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, unveiled her “Save the Sea Islands Tour” celebrating her 30th anniversary, as stated in a press release on Tuesday.

This tour aims to honor the rich heritage of the Gullah/Geechee community while promoting efforts in land preservation, sustaining cultural traditions, and empowering local communities.

“The Gullah/Geechee culture is a vibrant legacy, preserved through our spirit, language, rituals, and dedication to our land,” Queen Quet expressed. “This tour is a tribute to our past and a beacon for our future. Together, we strive to heal and uplift our communities because, in the words of our ancestors, hunnuh mus tek cyare de root fa heal de tree.

The tour carries the theme “Hunnuh Mus Tek Cyare de Root fa Heal de Tree — Celebrating Gullah/Geechee Land & Legacy,” as confirmed by a spokesperson.

Coinciding with Black History Month, the Gullah/Geechee Nation will host various events throughout February, including community gatherings, cultural read-ins, performances, and educational activities across the Lowcountry and Sea Islands. These events are designed to build excitement and support for the larger tour, according to the spokesperson.

You can join the celebrations on the following days:

  • Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at 6 pm at the Colleton County Memorial Library in Walterboro
  • Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at 5:30 pm at the St. Helena Branch Library on historic St. Helena Island
  • Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, at noon at the Pure Theater in Charleston
  • Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, at 11 am at the Bluffton Gullah Cultural Heritage Center
