SAVANNAH, Ga. () — With Tuesday’s games concluded, the stage is set for the Region 3-AAA high school basketball semifinals.
Liberty County’s basketball teams, both boys and girls, secured their semifinal spots with commanding victories. The Panther boys outplayed Jenkins, finishing with a 59-42 score, while the girls dominated Calvary Day, securing an impressive 80-18 win.
Long County also saw both its teams progress to the next round. The boys emerged victorious over Islands, winning 68-52 on their home court.
Despite a remarkable season turnaround, the Groves girls’ team fell short of a state tournament berth, losing to Beach, 65-47. Joining them, the Beach boys also advanced by defeating Windsor Forest with the same scoreline, 65-47.
Meanwhile, the Calvary Day boys capitalized on a strong first-half performance to overcome Groves, ending the game with a 62-41 victory.
Johnson and Long County played arguably the best game of the night. With the game tied at 47 with 25 seconds left, Zae’Riah Buckner was left wide open.
Johnson had a chance on the other end to score. Their first shot was off the mark, but they were fouled on the second attempt with 1.3 ticks remaining. Johnson missed both free throws as they fell, 49-47.
Jenkins girls rolled past Windsor Forest, 69-32.
The semifinals will be on Friday. On the girls’ side, Liberty County will face Long County in the first matchup at 6:30 p.m. The second match is Beach and Jenkins happens at 3:30 p.m.
On the boys’ side, Long County faces off against Beach at 8 p.m. in the first semifinal. The second semifinal will see Calvary Day and Liberty County at 5 p.m.
All semifinal and championship round matches will take place at Long County High School.
