Authorities in Georgia have initiated a widespread search for two inmates who recently escaped from jail and are currently evading capture.

Rickey Martin, 20, and Kentravious Holmes, 21, made their escape from Sumter County Jail in Americus on the night of February 8 at 9:30 p.m. As per a statement released by the sheriff’s department, both individuals were detained on several serious charges, including Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, and Murder.

Martin is characterized by the police as a 5-foot-4-inch Black male, weighing 120 pounds, with un-twisted dreadlocks. Holmes, who is 5-foot-8 and weighs 155 pounds, is also Black and is noted for his distinctive tattoos on his neck and face, which feature a dollar sign, a broken heart, and the words “Baby Kay” above his right eye.

Sheriff Eric D. Bryant explained that the escape was made possible through a maintenance door. “After manipulating the locks, they accessed an area that led them to the roof,” Bryant revealed to ABC News. “This space is typically used by the maintenance department for servicing air fixtures, air conditioning, heating, and water systems.”

“The area that they were able to access, once they manipulated the locks, led them to the roof,” Bryant told ABC News. “That’s a mechanical area that the maintenance department utilizes to maintain air fixtures, air conditioners, heating, as well as water.”

From there, added Bryant, the men accessed the roof of the facility.

Once staff realized the inmates were missing, Bryant told WGXA News, they examined camera footage and viewed the men jump from the roof of the jail.

Underscoring the severity of the men’s charges, Bryant added, “It is our priority to get them back in custody.”

Right now, authorities are interviewing those close to the suspects, who are both from Americus, GA.

“We are looking into family, friends, acquaintances, social partners – we start talking to all of those individuals,” Bryant told WGXA. “We started going through the inmate phone records here at the jail. We are trying to gather whatever information about them, their whereabouts, their associates or where they may hang out at.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the county sheriff with a fugitive investigation, a spokesperson told Oxygen, adding, “The case is active at this time and no other information is available for release.”

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately return a request for comment from Oxygen.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who sees the suspects, or has knowledge of their whereabouts, to call 229-924-4094. Calls can be made anonymously.
