The announcement of God of War: Sons of Spartan took everyone by surprise. While rumors had been circulating about a potential 2D installment in the God of War series, the immediate release of the game following its announcement was unexpected.
The game is now readily available on the PlayStation Store.
Opening the event, the beloved third-person action-adventure series Kena makes a return with its new installment, Kena: Scars of Kosmora.
This revelation certainly wasn’t on anyone’s State of Play prediction list, and the excitement is palpable!
The original game was a standout hit, known for its stunning art style, innovative gameplay mechanics, and intense boss battles.
In Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Kena is a little older, more experienced, and venturing into a seemingly larger world. Very much looking forward to Kena’s next adventure. This one is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC later this year — a completely unexpected but welcome announcement.
This multiplayer expansion to one of 2025’s best games is bringing the action, with three mission types. Best part is it’s free if you already own Ghost of Yōtei.
We also had a closer look at CONTROL: Resonant and it’s shaping up to be an action-packed, wild ride.
Protagonist Dylan’s “shift” ability allows him to control the world and reposition gravity, meaning he can scale buildings and the world in a totally unique way.
Compared to the first CONTROL game, Resonant certainly looks to take the series forward in exciting ways. I’m very keen to jump into this one on PlayStation 5 later this year.
Star Wars fans were given a closer look at Star Wars: Galactic Racer, something I’m particularly keen to play.
It looks like a modern Burnout title but with some of the galaxy’s best vehicles and pod racers.
007 First Light is also shaping up. Coming May 27, this early look at Bond’s story has a strong focus on action and story.
We also had a quick look at Silent Hill: Townfall, the next big entry in the Silent Hill series. Creepy is an understatement.
Keanu Reeves is back as action hero John Wick in a video game simply titled: John Wick.
Wick fans have been longing for some up close John Wick action and we’re finally getting it. This one is heading to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Other highlights include a closer look at Marvel Tokon Fight Souls, Saros (which is releasing April 30), volume two of the Metal Gear Solid collection, Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition, and demos for a bunch of great looking titles, including Darwin’s Paradox — it’s a huge showing from PlayStation.
The biggest video games set to be released this year
Players now have plenty of reasons to be excited about 2026 and beyond, especially off the back of the recent Xbox Developer Direct which saw closer looks at Fable and Forza Horizon 6.
