In an unprecedented move, a staggering six out of every ten tips received by the authorities contained information robust enough to be immediately forwarded to the police, according to recent statistics. This marks a national milestone in community-police collaboration.
Among the most frequently reported incidents were cases involving drug dealing, suspicious activities, and traffic violations. These reports come from vigilant citizens who are increasingly engaged in maintaining the safety of their communities.
To keep the public informed and involved, cases are highlighted weekly across a variety of platforms, including social media, print, radio, and television. This multi-channel approach ensures widespread awareness and encourages community participation.
Sergeant Nathan Gilmour of the Western Australia Police emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting a remarkable 70 percent success rate in identifying and charging individuals based on these community tips. “The community possesses a level of local knowledge that the police can’t always see on their own, and that partnership is how effective policing works,” he explained.

Information is still coming in on more than 3000 open cases, including significant unsolved crimes like the disappearance of Sarah Spiers.
“We are still receiving information to this day to assist investigators with finalising that matter for the families,” Crime Stoppers WA Sergeant James Baker said.
Tips can be made by phone or online, and can be anonymous.
“No footprint is left when that information goes to police,” Crime Stoppers WA chief executive Vince Hughes said.
Online tips now make up 70 per cent of the reports that come in, while phone calls make up the remaining 30 per cent.
