BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WXIN) — A tense situation unfolded in Beech Grove, Indiana, leaving two police officers injured and an armed suspect at large following an incident near a local school.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has joined forces with local law enforcement in a hunt for a suspect considered armed and dangerous. The search was initiated after officers responded to a reported incident in the 100 block of Diplomat Court, close to Beech Grove High School.
“Residents are advised to remain indoors, secure their homes, and alert authorities to any suspicious activity by calling 911,” the IMPD advised in an official statement.
Authorities have shared a limited description of the suspect, described as a Black male around 30 years old, last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes. Further details have not been released.
During the incident, two officers from the Beech Grove Police Department sustained gunshot injuries. Their current medical conditions have not been disclosed.
Police crews were called at 5:37 p.m. Monday to 140 Diplomat Court for a “disturbance.” Minutes later, just after 5:45 p.m., the run was upgraded to “gunshot scene unsafe.”
Around 6:10 p.m., IMPD said that Emerson Avenue is shut down from Churchman Avenue all the way to Interstate 465. People are being asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
