A Delaware resident, once married to the current first lady Jill Biden many years ago, entered a plea of not guilty on Tuesday in a case involving the alleged murder of his second wife.
Seventy-seven-year-old William Stevenson faces charges for the death of Linda Stevenson, 64, who was discovered unresponsive at their Wilmington residence on December 28.
He remains in custody, held on a $2 million bail, following his formal charge of murder on February 3.
Linda Stevenson, known for operating a bookkeeping business, was remembered in her obituary as a devoted mother and grandmother, as well as an avid Philadelphia Eagles supporter. Notably, her husband was absent from the obituary despite their 40-year marriage.

William Stevenson, Jill Biden’s former spouse, is now facing serious allegations regarding the death of his wife at their Delaware home late last December.
William Stevenson, founder of the popular Delaware music venue Stone Balloon, appeared remotely in court Tuesday.Â
“The pain of losing her is paralyzing and the emptiness in my heart is an abyss,” Linda’s daughter, Christine Vettori, wrote in a Facebook post after her death. “Most days I can barely breathe.”

Stevenson married Jill Biden in 1970 when she was an 18-year-old University of Delaware student and he was 23. The nuptials lasted five years before they divorced.Â
Stevenson remained a critic of his ex-wife, but said he wasn’t “bitter” about the way things ended.Â
“I’m not bitter because, if it wasn’t for my divorce, I would never have met my wife Linda and she’s the greatest thing in my life,” Bill told the Daily Mail in a 2020 interview.Â
Jill Biden went on to marry former President Joe Biden, who served in the White House from January 2021 to January 2025.
