In a tragic development from central California, the parents of a baby found deceased last month are now in custody, facing charges of child abuse and murder.

The infant, four-month-old Devonte McIntyre, was discovered lifeless at his home on January 23rd, according to a report by KFSN. Although an autopsy revealed distressing injuries, including head bleeding and mouth injuries, the official cause of death remains undetermined.

Authorities arrested 20-year-old Maleek McIntyre, the child’s father, on February 4th. He is currently held with a $1 million bond. Subsequently, on February 9th, 19-year-old Jasmine Polk, the child’s mother, was taken into custody without bond.

Details surrounding the case remain sparse. Polk recently made a court appearance on Wednesday and is expected to return on Thursday and Monday. McIntyre is also scheduled for a court appearance on Thursday.

Amidst the legal proceedings, the community gathered to mourn the loss of the young boy during services held on Tuesday. Lakisha Carmon, the infant’s great-godmother, expressed her belief in Polk’s innocence, stating, “She is not a baby killer.”

“She has mental issues that are documented,” Carmon said.

“It’s really difficult because to know that she is in jail and to know that she can’t be here for the homegoing of her child that she had for four months,” she said.
