SAVANNAH, Ga. — In a proud moment at Savannah High School, four football players celebrated their athletic scholarship signings on Wednesday, marking the next chapter in both their educational and sporting journeys. The event took place in the school’s auditorium, filled with cheers and applause.

Gary Maxwell, an outside linebacker, is set to join Knox College in Illinois. Reflecting on this achievement, Maxwell shared, “It’s a significant moment for me because, over the years, not many of us have managed to take this step. I’m thrilled that we can all progress together.”

Meanwhile, defensive end Jakari Douse is making his way to Gordon State College in Barnesville, Georgia. Douse expressed his excitement, saying, “Gordon is close to home, near my family and friends. I can easily stay connected, and it’s truly a fantastic opportunity in a wonderful environment.”

“Gordon is closer to home, to my family, to my friends,” Douse said. “I could always get around. It’s just a great opportunity and a great place to be.”

Defensive back Martrell Mitchell will take his talents Bethany College in Kansas.

“You want a coach that’s going to listen to you and bond with you,” Mitchell said. “You don’t want to coach that is just, ‘Oh yeah, he’s there.’ He was actually connecting with me. So I was like, ‘You know what? I think it’s a fit.’”

Wide receiver and defensive back Eli Frieson travels to Tennessee to play at Sewanee.

“It means a lot to me, being the first male to make it to college in my family,” said Frieson. They were the best option for me academically, athletically. The coaching staff showed me a lot of love.”
