MARION COUNTY, Fla. – In a distressing discovery, authorities in Marion County have arrested a 32-year-old woman following the uncovering of a tragic animal cruelty case at a home in Ocklawaha. Deputies found two deceased dogs and one living dog in a cage at the residence, as confirmed by the sheriff’s office.

Shan’Tayia Brenae Edwards is now facing serious charges, including aggravated animal cruelty and abandonment of an animal. The investigation unfolded on November 6, when deputies responded to a location on the 12380 block of SE 130th Court. Marion County Animal Services was executing a search and seizure warrant aimed at removing dogs from the premises.

Inside the property, deputies discovered the grim scene of two dead dogs. Remarkably, a dog named Olaf was found alive, yet confined in a cage alongside the others. This discovery has raised significant concerns and prompted the swift intervention of law enforcement and animal services.

In related news, an unsettling incident also occurred recently involving a woman who allegedly shot a Marion County sheriff’s deputy with a firearm concealed in her pants, according to officials. For more details on this story, stay tuned as further information becomes available.

The sheriff’s office said necropsy results of the two dead dogs found that they were severely emaciated and neither dog had food in their stomachs when they died. They were also infected with hookworms, deputies said.

Olaf was also positive for heartworms, microfilaria and hookworms, the sheriff’s office said.

According to officials, Edwards had traveled to Georgia for a job interview and never returned home. Deputies said a warrant was issued for her arrest, after multiple attempts to contact her.

Edwards was arrested by police in Georgia on Feb. 2, where she was taken into custody while she was working at a Waffle House.

She was extradited to Marion County, deputies said Wednesday, where she was booked into the Marion County jail.
