The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has expressed approval of the Supreme Court’s recent decision to invalidate a significant portion of President Trump’s tariffs. The ruling, announced on Friday, has been described by the Chamber as “welcome news” for both businesses and consumers.

Neil Bradley, the Chamber’s Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer, released a statement highlighting the adverse effects these tariffs have had over the past year. He noted that small and midsize businesses across the nation have been grappling with increased costs and supply chain interruptions due to the tariffs.

Bradley emphasized that the rapid return of the unlawful tariffs will be particularly beneficial for the more than 200,000 small business importers in the U.S., potentially leading to stronger economic growth this year.

In a related commentary, Rand Paul commended the Supreme Court’s decision, framing it as a defense of the Republic.

The ruling saw the Supreme Court justices declare Trump’s broad application of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to introduce tariffs on numerous countries as unlawful, marking a significant check on executive power.

On Friday, Supreme Court justices rejected as unlawful Trump’s expanded use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose tariffs on most countries.

“We claim only, as we must, the limited role assigned to us by Article III of the Constitution,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the decision. “Fulfilling that role, we hold that IEEPA does not authorize the President to impose tariffs.”

The Chamber, which represents the interests of nearly 3 million companies, has been critical of Trump’s tariffs from the get-go. In July, it filed an amicus brief arguing the president was overstepping his statutory authority and his actions were causing “irreparable harm to businesses of all sizes.”

“We encourage the administration to use this opportunity to reset overall tariff policy in a manner that will lead to greater economic growth, larger wage gains for workers, and lower costs for families,” Bradley said in the statement.
