PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. – On Saturday morning, members of a local grassroots advocacy group took to the footbridge over SR-21 to unfurl a banner with the message, “Abolish ICE.”

Representing the group, Robin Montgomery, who is the Savannah Organizing Director, explained that the banner drop was a direct reaction to recent events concerning immigration enforcement at both the national and local levels.

“The actions of ICE and DHS have become increasingly violent,” Montgomery remarked. “Their methods have grown more egregious and aggressive toward individuals.”

Montgomery emphasized that the protest was aimed at drawing attention to the conditions in detention centers, the separation of families, and the expansion of immigration enforcement by both ICE and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
