In a poignant essay for The Cut, Gayheart shared that her decision to remain married was driven by a commitment to be there for the Euphoria star following his diagnosis.
Gayheart wrote that she was respecting Dane’s wishes to spend time with family, facilitating regular contact with the two kids they shared. She also picked up the slack with managing her husband’s care, dealing with nurses, and filling in when needed. Gayheart wanted to teach her daughters that we show up for the people we love, even if the romance had long since left the relationship.

Prior to Shirtcliff, Dane was reportedly dating Priya Jain. According to Page Six, Jain and Dane met in 2024. She was unaware that Dane was seeing Shirtcliff until they appeared on a red carpet together. Dane never confirmed the romance with Jain, but they were spotted spending time together several times. Neither has spoken out since Dane’s death.
