The future of the beloved Dragon Ball franchise has been unveiled sooner than fans expected.

In an unexpected turn of events, Bandai Namco, renowned for publishing popular anime series like Dragon Ball and One Piece, inadvertently revealed a new project for the iconic Akira Toriyama series.

The Bandai Namco Southeast Asia YouTube channel listed a playlist under the title Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3. This playlist surprisingly includes only the official trailer for Dragon Ball Age 1000. This revelation strongly suggests that Dragon Ball Age 1000, featuring a fresh protagonist crafted by the late Toriyama, is indeed a new chapter in the Xenoverse series.

On the Bandai Namco Southeast Asia YouTube channel, a playlist for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 was created and currently only includes the official trailer for Dragon Ball Age 1000. This seemingly confirms that Dragon Ball Age 1000, which features a brand-new protagonist designed by the late Toriyama, is secretly a new installment in the Xenoverse franchise.

Dragon Ball Age 1000 was officially revealed worldwide on Jan. 25, 2026, at Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri. The international livestream event was also where a new anime continuation of Dragon Ball Super was confirmed for the first time, as well as a new anime remake scheduled for the fall of 2026.

Currently scheduled for a 2027 release, Dragon Ball Age 1000 was said to feature more elements and settings than previous Dragon Ball games. It’s been in development for six-to-seven years withToriyama’s heavy involvement.

The game’s protagonist — a newly designed, slim character by Toriyama, with white hair that turns gold in Super Saiyan mode — is one of many new characters introduced for the game. At the moment, fan speculation suggests this brand-new protagonist is related to the original Dragon Ball cast.

Most importantly, during its initial reveal, it was said that the official name for Dragon Ball Age 1000 would be revealed at a later date. Notably, a deeper dive into the game is planned for Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, which will take place in the U.S. on April 18-19.

“This project started a while ago, and we’ve been working on it for quite some time,” said Akio Iyoku, the executive producer of the Dragon Ball franchise, at Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri. “More elements and settings were packed into Age 1000 than any other game in the past, and Akira Toriyama has put a lot of work into it.”

While gameplay details weren’t revealed at Genkidamatsuri, many fans believe the futuristic time-jump setting in Age 1000, as well as the new blank-slate protagonist, painted the game as an online multiplayer title.

If Age 1000 is Xenoverse 3, this puts the probable sequel in line with past Xenoverse titles, where players created their own characters in the massive Dragon Ball world and played together online to solve time-traveling missions that jeopardized the series’ official timeline.

The most recent title in the video game series, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, has been going strong since Oct. 25, 2016 — 10 years ago! The time is certainly right for a new Xenoverse game, and Age 1000 might exactly be it.

The cast of Dragon Ball Z, including characters such as Son Goku, Vegeta and Piccolo, among others, leaps towards the camera in the poster for the show.
