WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA) — LEGOLAND Florida Resort is gearing up to unveil a significant new attraction: its first new roller coaster in 15 years.

This Galactic-themed indoor coaster offers a unique twist on the traditional ride, allowing families to steer their journey even before boarding.

As the ride begins, participants will embark on a full-fledged mission enhanced with storytelling, immersive effects, and the signature creativity of LEGO.

According to park officials, this new feature has been a long time in the making.

“We’ve invested over $90 million in this project at both LEGOLAND Florida and LEGOLAND California, and it’s been more than three years in development,” said Brittany Williams from LEGOLAND.

But before guests even get to the launch pad, they don’t just wait in line; they build.

Inside the customization bay, riders design their own LEGO spacecraft from hundreds of possible combinations.

“You’ve got over 625 different options to build different spaceships. So it’s all about whatever you can imagine as a kid or an adult or wish you imagined as a kid,” said Blake Boyer with Merlin Magic Making.

Designers say the build-your-own element reflects the core of the LEGO brand.

“At the heart of every LEGO experience is building and playing together and the imagination of the kids. So we wanted to bring that into the theme park world like we’ve never done before,” Boyer said.

Once strapped in, riders blast off on a mission to save their spaceport, with twists, dips, and turns that combine modern ride technology with classic LEGO storytelling.

Despite the thrills, creators say accessibility was a major priority so younger riders can enjoy their first coaster experience alongside parents.

“We wanted a great indoor experience and bringing that core DNA of being able to build and bring that play into our theme park and onto our ride,” Boyer said.

When the ride ends, the adventure continues. The attraction features themed displays and LEGO models meant to connect generations, from kids discovering space sets for the first time to adults recognizing nostalgic favorites from their childhood.

The new Galacticoaster officially opens Friday, Feb. 27.
