Bodycam footage of Krystal Farmer”s home in Flint, Mich. (Flint Township Police Department).
In Michigan, authorities arrested a mother after discovering her two children with special needs had been left alone for multiple days.
Krystal Farmer, 35, faces serious charges, including two counts of child abandonment, four counts of child abuse, and providing false information to law enforcement. The Flint Township Police reported the incident, revealing they found her children in distress within their Flint, Michigan, residence on February 18. According to a Facebook post by the department, the house was in disarray, littered with garbage, and the walls were stained with human excrement. One young boy was discovered consuming “raw, spoiled meat,” while the other was found hiding on the bedroom floor.
Police involvement began after a vigilant neighbor called 911, requesting a welfare check. Local CBS station WNEM interviewed nearby resident Christy Ogles-Campbell, who expressed her concerns about the home, which she noted had been troubling since at least September. Reflecting on the situation, she stated, “I never ever could have imagined that that was actually what was going on in that house.”
During their investigation, officers said Farmer attempted to deceive them, but her fabricated story was soon unraveled. The police released body camera footage showing the harrowing conditions: one child was unclothed, and the other was covered in excrement. No adults were present at the scene.
Further inspection of the home revealed it was overwhelmed with trash, making it difficult for officers to walk normally. A faucet had been left running, causing water to spill onto the floor. The police described the environment as having been reduced to mere survival conditions.
In their Facebook post, Flint police said the boys were “now safe” because one neighbor “spoke up.”
According to online court records, a bond order was issued on Monday, but information about Farmer’s bond amount or incarceration status was not available.
