Robert Carradine, an actor celebrated for his performances in “Revenge of the Nerds” and the television series “Lizzie McGuire,” has passed away at the age of 71.
In Washington, news of Carradine’s death was confirmed, with Deadline reporting that he tragically took his own life after a battle with bipolar disorder.
The Carradine family shared a heartfelt statement with Deadline, expressing their deep sorrow: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished father, grandfather, uncle, and brother, Robert Carradine. In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon of light to everyone around him. We are heartbroken by the loss of this beautiful soul and wish to honor Bobby’s courageous battle with bipolar disorder over nearly two decades. We hope his story will illuminate the importance of addressing the stigma surrounding mental illness. During this time, we kindly request privacy to mourn this unimaginable loss, and we extend our gratitude for your understanding and compassion.”
Keith Carradine, Robert’s older brother and fellow actor, emphasized to Deadline the importance of recognizing Robert’s struggle with bipolar disorder, hoping to raise awareness about the challenges faced by those with mental health conditions.

“We want people to know it, and there is no shame in it,” he said. “It is an illness that got the best of him, and I want to celebrate him for his struggle with it, and celebrate his beautiful soul. He was profoundly gifted, and we will miss him every day. We will take solace in how funny he could be, how wise and utterly accepting and tolerant he was. That’s who my baby brother was.”
Robert Carradine’s first roles in the early 1970s included appearances on “Bonanza,” “Kung Fu” and “The Cowboys.” He had 150 television and movie credits over six decades that included his role as Sam McGuire, the father of Lizzie McGuire on the popular Disney television series.
