On Thursday, a man from North Carolina found himself under arrest after launching an attack on the individual accused of murdering his son inside a courtroom.

Marion McKnight, aged 21, stands accused of fatally shooting 16-year-old Jamariyae Dixon in May, during an incident at Stroud Park Court that also injured three others. McKnight, who had been released on a $100,000 bond, attended a hearing at the Mecklenburg County courthouse regarding the potential revocation of his bond. It was here that Dixon’s father, Shaheem Snype, confronted and assaulted McKnight outside a courtroom on the fifth floor, as reported by WSOC.

An advocate from the nonprofit organization Mothers Advocating for Real Change and Unwavering Support (M.A.R.C.U.S.) informed WCNC that McKnight had allegedly taunted Dixon’s family after securing his release. McKnight was present in court on Thursday due to violations of his release conditions.

According to WSOC, a police officer intervened using a Taser to halt Snype’s attack on McKnight. Following the incident, McKnight was taken to the hospital, while Snype faced charges of misdemeanor assault.

Dixon’s mother shared with WANE that after witnessing a video of the courtroom altercation, she felt a sense of relief, stating, “I smiled. That was the first time I had a real smile since my son’s passing.”

In addition to Dixon’s murder, McKnight is charged with two counts of attempted murder. His bond hearing was rescheduled in light of Thursday’s altercation.
