CATLIN, Ill. (WCIA) — Salt Fork has its eyes set on a return to the sectional title game, aiming for their third appearance in six years by focusing on foundational skills.
The Storm boasts an impressive 26-4 record as they prepare for the sectional semifinals against Cumberland, who shares an identical record of 26-4.
“We’ve made it to the final 32, which feels great, but our goal is to advance to the Sweet 16 and savor that achievement once more,” expressed senior forward and team captain Sailor Pacot.
Head coach Brian Russell emphasizes the importance of playing with a relaxed and joyful mindset, reminding his players of the remarkable performances they deliver when they enjoy the game. He hopes to maintain this positive energy as they progress through the semifinals and beyond.
“We’ve focused on playing with high energy, unity, and enjoyment, which significantly enhances our performance,” Russell explained. “In the last couple of games, we’ve been a bit tense. Now, it’s all about easing up and playing naturally.”
Salt Fork and Cumberland will face off on Tuesday, February 24, at 7:30 p.m. at Argenta-Oreana.
